CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT OF SUCCESS

There are certain skills that successful people have in common. They’re experts in their field, they like to win, they have great attitudes, and they know how to manage their time. But what keeps these people motivated, buzzed and energised? I happen to know a few of their secrets. Below I outline some of the top tips that will aid you in creating an environment of success…

Exercise

As an active person, I can honestly say that if I didn’t exercise each and every day, I would be a truly miserable person. For me, exercise has always gone hand in hand with motivation. If you exercise first thing in the morning, you’ll have a clear mind, and a whole lot of endorphins, to help you tackle your day.

There’s no excuse for not exercising. Some might claim that they don’t have time for such things, but you can always make the time. Cutting down on one hour of sleep in exchange for a healthy body and mind is well worth it.

Make time for your loved ones

You’ll hear a lot of professional people who complain about not having enough time with their families. But, just like with exercising, it’s important that you actually make time for the people you love.

I have seen so many people in the working environment waste their time during the day, and as a result, have to stay late at the office. Of course, you’re going to miss out on valuable time with your kids if you’re not working cleverly. When you’re at work, be 100 percent present! Focus on all work-related tasks and get them done in good time so that you can go home to the people you love.

You’ve got to spend quality time with your family every day. If you control your time carefully, you’ll have the chance to do so, and you’ll find that it motivates you because your spirit will be lifted by being with the people that you care about most. If you’ve got young kids, then get up an hour earlier in the morning and spend time with them before you go to the gym and then to work.

Keep your diary full

A happy mind is a busy mind. A full calendar is a great way to keep motivated. Having too much downtime is often the cause of demotivation. Have you ever spent the whole weekend in bed doing a series marathon? How did you feel after doing that? Chances are, you probably felt lethargic and down. Watching TV is not going to help your motivation levels in any way, but engaging with people and getting out and doing things will!

Fill your diary every single day. Seven days a week. The more you’re doing, the more energised you’ll be! The less you do, the more chance you have of getting into bad habits, and into a negative situation. Doing nothing creates negativity and depression.

Make sure you understand that keeping busy is important. If you do nothing, then you won’t see any positive results.

Get a good night’s rest

Contrary to popular belief, not everyone needs eight hours of sleep every night. But it is important to find out exactly how many hours your body needs. Some people can survive on four hours of sleep, while others need nine. In my experience, getting to sleep earlier means that I can start the next day earlier.

What is your nightly ritual? Do you spend hours watching television or doing unimportant tasks? If so, then perhaps you should consider going to bed earlier rather than wasting precious hours where you could be sleeping. Let’s say, for example, that you need seven hours of sleep. If you go to bed at 9 pm, then by 4 am you would have already had your seven hours. If you get up at this time, you’ll get to see the sunrise, you’ll have time to get yourself organised, and you’ll get yourself in the zone before anyone else is even awake. There is nothing more energising than being at work before everyone else, and getting a lot done before your colleagues arrive at work.

Try to start your day before the sun rises. It’s incredibly motivating. Those two or three hours that you waste staring at the television at night are no good for you anyway. Rather get to bed earlier, get up earlier, and seize the day.
