Chances are, you have complained about not having enough time at least once. There are only so many hours a day, right? WRONG. Everyone has the same 24 hours a day – so how come some people manage to get everything they want to be done, and others don’t? It all comes down to smart time management.
There are some things I’ve learnt over the years about making the best use of this precious resource. In this article, I’m going to share my top 3 time management strategies, so that you can plan well and make the best use of your time.
Routine, Routine, Routine
I cannot say this enough. Having a fixed daily routine is at the foundation of time management. Right now, as we all practice isolation, quarantine and social distancing, we may think it’s ok to be a bit flexible, but in reality, this is when you need to find the discipline to stick to your daily routine. It will give you a sense of purpose and normalcy while helping you stay healthy and productive.
Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day makes sure you are well-rested and have enough energy for the day ahead. Spending some time each day working out is a great way to stay physically and mentally healthy. Having a routine also makes it easier to focus on work as you would have dedicated distraction-free time for it.
They say it takes 21 days to form a habit, so do yourself a favour and for the next three weeks, fix a routine and follow it. You’ll thank me later!
Early to Bed and Early to Rise…
Makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise simply because he finds the TIME to plan nutritious meals, exercise regularly, and work far more productively than if he slept in and partied all night.
Call me old-fashioned, but I think it’s more important to get shuteye at night so that I’ll be fresh and ready to power through the next day. It’s worked for me and I attribute a big part of my success to the energy levels I’m able to maintain throughout the day thanks to my healthy schedules and timings.
I’m up at 4:30 every morning for my 5 AM workout, after which I eat a nutritious breakfast and then start my day with ‘Coffee with Spencer’, a short live session on Instagram where I answer the toughest questions my followers ask me. This sets the pace for a fulfilling day. Figure out what will make your morning the perfect start for your day and stick to it with the discipline of a soldier. The late nights binge-watching TV are not going to do you much good. Millennials call smart time management ‘adulting’ – I call it being responsible!
Break Up Your Time
I have a secret to how I manage my hectic workdays and race through a daunting workload. I break up my time into 15-minute increments. This helps me tackle my tasks efficiently, because I know I only have 15 minutes to finish a task. Plus, it makes sure I can fit more work into my day and also keeps my mind sharp and switched-on throughout my workday.
These are my top tips to make the most of your time. Stick to a healthy routine, sleep well and wake up early, and figure out a time system that will help you make the most of your workday. During this pandemic lockdown, discipline and effective time management will help a great deal for your physical and mental health, as well as do wonders for your productivity.
